›› Secretary’s Report:

  • Helen Bragaw read the minutes from the May meeting.
  • All minutes were motioned and approved

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Dottie Ballard reviewed the Treasurers Report and went through the budget for the upcoming year. Highlights include:

  • $700 slotted for Beautification. Volunteers are needed. Part of this money will go toward “dressing up” the portable classroom and adding a schoolhouse bell on top. High school students will build the cupola.
  • Last year’s Book Fair made $2600 in profits.
  • Chess club purchased game boards last year which can be reused this year. Prizes and additional boards will need to be purchased this year.
  • 2006 Fun Run made a tremendous profit last year and is expected to do so again this year.
  • Fifth Grade activities – any remaining money at end of year goes toward class gift to school. Last year’s gift will be a permanent outdoor game table.
  • Two Movie Nights are planned for this year.
  • Last year’s Restaurant Raffle proceeds went for Katrina relief charities (First Book and Mercy Corp.). This year they will go toward PTO projects.
  • $250 is available for auditing of the PTO books.
  • Box top money has not yet come in.
  • Destination Imagination – last year, money came out of Mr. Zacharko’s discretionary fund. This year, it will be funded by profits from the Holiday Secret Shop.
  • Field Day was coordinated by parents and teachers of each grade level last year. Most feel this worked well and would like to do the same this year.
  • A later deadline for the yearbook this year will cost more. PTO subsidizes the expense to keep the cost of the yearbook for families lower.
  • A Sam’s Club membership card has been acquired for the PTO to avoid personal reimbursements. A gift card has been purchased for members to use.
  • The volunteer sign-in computer may need to be replaced in the near future.
  • Website maintenance will require funds for domain name registration and upkeep software.
  • Teaching vouchers will include funds in the amount of $25/teacher for individual classroom needs and $50/teacher for grade level teaching team projects. In addition, each grade will have $500 to subsidize field trips as needed.

The PTO Budget for the 2006/2007 school year was motioned and unanimously approved.

Principal’s Report

Mr. Zacharko reported the following:

  • We had half the number of cars in the field parking lot for Back to School Night this year as last year.
  • Once again, as incentive to encourage students to have their agenda books signed daily by parents, students who get their books signed every day for 2 weeks will be eligible to have their name drawn to have lunch with Mr. Zacharko in his conference room. October 6th will be the first lunch with “Mr. Z.” day. Mr. Zacharko commented that agenda books have become indispensable in the 5 years that they’ve been used here at CSC Elementary and that they will continue to be used through middle and high school.
  • Parents were thanked for their efforts to make morning drop off and afternoon pickup more efficient.

Staff Liason Report

Teacher liaison Ms. Maureen Lombardo thanked the PTO for the “Welcome Back” gifts and for the “Back to School” dinner.

Committee Reports

  • Mia Riser reported that box top collection starts earlier this year. There will be an ice cream party for the winning class. Box tops will be accepted this year in bundles of 50 tops to make counting easier. There will be a reward for the student who collects and turns in the most.
  • Geralyn Valente reported that the first Movie Night would be September 22nd with the later movie being shown outside at 7:30. Ms. Woods apologized for the PTO scheduling Movie Night on the evening beginning Rosh Hashana observance. She indicated that it was inadvertent and would not happen again.
  • The Ice Cream Social is ready to go for October 13th. 3 Brothers will provide the baked ziti and salad. New chairs will be needed for this event next year. Shannon Quetel indicated that she is “in training” to take on the chair position.
  • Irenee McElwee reported that donations for the Restaurant Raffle are being solicited. The letter and tickets to go home with students will be out at the end of next week.
  • Jennifer Crews-Carey reported that the yearbook will again have 76 color pages. She has 23 volunteers and needs pictures from last year’s Fun Run. The first committee meeting will be next week.
  • Christy Folderauer inquired about the delivery window for Book Fair books and where they could be stored. They can be stored in the school if they arrive early.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM.
