Giant Rebate Program (Chair: Debbie Dernetz) This committee gets out the word that Giant is willing to donate with purchases. At home opportunity.
Market Day (Chairs: Julie Echard, Brenda Hall, Celene Lathan-Sym) Held the 4th Tuesday of every month. This event is a way of purchasing quality frozen foods while at the same time making money for the school. We not only need customers, but will also need volunteers one evening a month to unload the truck, sort the food and help customers with their orders. Time requested: 1 to 2 hours between 4:45 and 7:00 on pick-up nights.
Ice Cream Social Friday, October 12 2007,5:30-9:00 (Chairs: Food: Deanna Tobin and Julie Todaro; Games: Chair Needed - previous chairs willing to provide guidance and pass on all info! This is a night for the entire family. We will have lots of food, fun and games. We will need volunteers to cook, set up, serve, clean up and run games. This is a fabulous fundraiser and a chance to meet other families.
Restaurant Fundraiser (Chair Needed) Solicit donations of gift certificates to dine at area's best restaurants. Generate, distribute and collect tickets and money for drawing at Ice Cream Social. Once a year activity
Book Fair (Chairs: Stacie Cochran-McNeal & Peg McKay) Nov 12-17. The Scholastic Book Fair has become a traditional way for everyone in the Cape St. Claire community to purchase books. The book fair provides the kids with a chance to shop on their own and is a great place to shop for the Holidays. As in past years, the fair will be held during school hours and one evening during American Education Week. Three to four volunteers will be needed at all times to help the students and parents. Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are needed.
5th Grade Committee (Chairs: Kathy Logan, Denise Drake and Dottie Ballard) Parents of 5th graders are needed to help organize and raise funds to support 5th grade activities.
Holiday Secret Shop (Chair: Heather Kilpatrick) Fundraiser on behalf of Destination Imagination. Help with ths fun child-oriented event scheduled for early December. Volunteers needed to shop for sale items and help on the day of event. This was a very popular and exciting evening for the kids last year. Please help make this an annual event.

Talent Show (Chair: Amy Brown) We have a marvelous talent show - a 5-year tradition and lots of fun. Try-outs for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are held in late winter. Help is needed for stage, music refreshments, video, etc.
Movie Night (Chairs: Geralyn Valente, Diane Schiller, & Donna Sokolowski) Movie, popcorn and hot dog event with a matinee and an evening show. A newly released to DVD movie is shown to sell out crowds in the cafeteria (multipurpose room.) Bring blankets and pillows and settle in with your popcorn and your best school friends. Volunteers will be needed to set up, serve and clean up. These events have been very popular and successful! Fall and Spring dates to be announced.
Fun Run (Chair: Laura Seebeck) Sixth year of this annual event. 1-mile fun run and walk paired with a 5K run through the beautiful community of Cape St. Claire. Help is needed with sponsorship, t-shirts, registration, publicity and day of race activities.
Golf Tournament (Chair: John Brown, Co-chair needed) Golfers needed as well as volunteers to run the event and solicit donations.
Sailing Regatta (Chair Needed) New event.
Directory (Chairs: Vicky Jenkins & Donna Sokolowski) Each year the PTO creates our school 'phone book'. Listing in the directory is optional. The directory is presented free of charge to every family with a child in the school. Help is needed to compile information, and print. At home opportunity.
Membership (Chair: Wendy Crouse) Promote, collect and tabulate PTO memberships. We want everyone to join the PTO!
Tee Shirts (Melanie Cavaliere) Help process and distribute tee shirt orders once a year. PTO provides the opportunity to purchase shirts and other items with the school name and logo at cost.

Destination Imagination (Chairs: Barb Hoyt and Sarah Reilly) Parents of participating 4th and 5th grade students needed to lead competitive problem solving teams. Significant time commitment required - contact chair for more info. Also needed: tournament assessors. Must train & attend full day of tournament. Anyone welcome - a fun way to see what DI is all about.
Chess Club (Chair: Melissa Hagan and Mary Quick) Parents of participating students are needed to set up, monitor classes & put away board. Mondays, 7 - 8 AM.
Chesapeake Bay Day (Chair: Shira Dowling) Volunteers needed 1 day to help children plant, paint and weed to celebrate and teach about the Chesapeake Bay.
Yearbook Committee (Chair: Jennifer Crews-Carey) A combination of photography and design of pages within a group setting. Time requested: composition meetings twice-monthly & photograph special events.
Teacher Luncheons (Chair: Renee Rutledge) PTO supplies the faculty and staff several times throughout the year with luncheons/breakfasts/dinners. We need volunteers who enjoy making dishes and also to help set up and clean up.
Teacher Appreciation Banquet (Chairs: Philip and Donna Sokolowski; Committee: Sandy Hermann and Vicky Hourican) One day event - parents needed to decorate staff lunch room, provide table service & clean up after event.
Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad (Chair: Linda Siner) Volunteers needed to shop once a month for muffins, donuts and drinks. Shop once or shop for them all. 12 events.
Beautification (Chair Needed) Maintaining landscaping around the school as needed. No mowing required, just pulling weeds and planning new plantings. Time requested: fexible during school hours.
Cultural Enrichment (Chair: Cathy Logan) The PTO budgets funds for extra programs that might benefit the children. These programs include assemblies on music, arts, science and sometimes just fun! By serving on this committee, you can help explore and choose valuable programs to bring to our school.
Field Day: Volunteers needed on day(s) of event to help run water and game stations.
Media: Perform duties as set by the media specialist. May include processing and shelving of books, clerical work and helping students.
Chessie: Listen to students share CHESSIE books in the media center. Consistent schedule requested.

5th Grade Drownproofing Volunteers (*especially Dads*) are needed for in water and out of water help at the Arundel Swim Center on September 27, 28, October 1 & 2. Time requested: Approx. 4 hours each day for 4 days.

Vision and Hearing Screening Assist Health Department in testing Kindergarten and 3rd graders and new students on February 5 & 5, 2008. Time requested: approx. 2 hours.
Guest Reader: Read a story to a class. Time will be individually arranged. Guest Reader days have not yet been scheduled. Additional days may be arranged through individual teachers.
Foreign Student Assistant: Occasionally during the school year, children who do not speak English come to our school (last year we had children who only spoke Russian and Spanish). If you are fluent in any foreign language and are interested in helping a child or a teacher, please let us know.
Media Culture Days: Occasionally during the year, the media specialists celebrate holidays (e.g. St. Patrick's Day, Mardi Gras, Chinese New Year, etc.) and need volunteers to share their knowledge of different cultures through food, flags and any other useful information with the students. Time requested: as needed by media specialists.
Room Parents (Chair: Geralyn Valente) One parent is needed in each class or homeroom to help with various activities such as holiday parties, organize “chessie” dates and classroom helpers. Depending on the response, we may not be able to accommodate everyone who wants to be a room parent. We will let you know by the end of September. Please note: Each classroom teacher has the ultimate say in who is chosen.
Party Supplies We need many parents to volunteer to bring food, paper goods or snacks for the parties in each class. Your name and phone number will be given to the room parent so that you may be contacted when needed.
Art Department Volunteers A few volunteers are needed to do material preparation, bulletin board changes and displays. Time requested: 1 or 2 hours per week.
After School Enrichment Programs. Parent volunteers may be needed for possible after school enrichment programs to distribute and collect forms, monitor classes, etc. (possible language and science programs).
PE Class Special Projects. Help kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders as needed by PE teachers (i.e., turning jump ropes, etc.)
24 Game (Chair Shira Dowling) Volunteers are needed to help with after school math program to distribute and collect forms, monitor classes, etc.
Kindergarten Recess Monitors. Kindergarten needs responsible parents to supervise and encourage safe play during Kindergarten recess. Younger children are not permitted.
