Saturday, April 24th at Cape St. Claire Elementary School. Proceeds of this year’s event go toward improving and upgrading the school’s playground equipment. Each year, participation in our event has grown, and kids and adults of all ages and ability turn out for a morning of fun and fitness. This year, the first 200 registrants receive a free official running shirt. Run in style during the race and all year around! Please download your registration form from our website. Preregistration fees are $10 for kids ages 5-14 and $15 for all others. The deadline for mail-in pre-registration is April 15th. Walk-up registration on race day will be $20 for adults and $12 for kids ages 5-14 and will be open from 7:30 – 8:15am at CSC Elementary. The 5K race begins at 8:30am followed by the

1-mile race at 8:40am. Everyone is invited to participate – runners, joggers, walkers and rollers (strollers and wheelchairs are welcomed and encouraged to join but no bikes, skates or skateboards, please!) Awards will be presented to all finishers and individual awards to first, second and third place male and female finishers of the 5K race in designated age groups. We send out a very big thank you to our early sponsors who make this event possible, Water to Go, and Annapolis Volvo. We are fortunate to once again have WNAV, AM 1430 broadcasting live before and during the race from Cape St. Claire Elementary. Music, entertainment and refreshments will be provided. As a local business owner, we would be delighted if you would like to be a sponsor for this worthwhile event. This is a favorite for students, parents and teachers.  Come see all the terrific books for all ages and fun gifts.  This is a great way to knock off some early holiday shopping and support both your PTO and your children’s classrooms.  Book Fair hours are as follows beginning Monday 11/16:

PLEASE JOIN US!!!

Please join our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, November 10^th at 6:30.  Plan to attend and become familiar with your child’s school and the issues that are involved in his daily life. We will discuss the playground equipment and the upcoming PTO sponsored events. Again the CAC will have a meeting immediately following the PTO for all those who wish to stay and further discuss the parking and safety issues.

Spanish Academy

The second session of Spanish Academy is starting. It runs Nov. 3 to Dec. 17th, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Another session will start after the holidays The dates of that session will be coming in December.  Spanish Academy is a fun way for your child to start learning another language early!  Look for more information coming home soon.

Book Fair

DESTINATION BOOK FAIR!  LET’S ALL READ AROUND THE WORLD!

Join us in sharing a love of reading with our students at the Cape St. Claire Elementary Scholastic Book fair will be held Monday, November 16^th through Friday, November 20.  The fair will be open during the following hours: Monday and Tuesday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 am – 8:00 pm (OPEN LATE), Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (LAST DAY). The Book Fair will offer specially priced books and educational products, including new releases, award-winning titles, children’s classics, interactive software, books for adults, and current bestsellers from more than 150 publishers.  As always, families will be able to help build classroom libraries and improve children’s reading skills by purchasing books through the Classroom Wish List and the One for Books program.

Look for the Scholastic Book Fair flyer, which will be sent home the week of November 9th.  It contains a sampling of the books you will be able to find at the book fair.

Jingle, Jingle… the Holiday Shop is almost here!

Mark your Calendars- December 1^st and 2^nd from 4:00-8:00 pm!  The Holiday Shop is EARLY this year!  Gifts will be available for parents, siblings, grandparents teachers, and pets.  As always, each gift costs only $2.00!  Please consider bringing your own shopping bag in which to carry your wrapped gifts.  This will help us continue being a “green school”.  We can always use help, so if you are interested call Heather Kilpatrick @ 410-151-7325

The Citizen’s Advisory Committee

The CAC has certainly tackled a hot topic this year! We have been working closely with Ms. Pergerson and Mrs. Hogan (our wonderful crossing guard) to address the traffic and safety issues, particularly at pick-up time after school. PLEASE NOTE: the county police may continue to ticket vehicles that are parked where the “No Parking” signs are posted on Hampton Road! Also, please be respectful of Mrs. Hogan, as she does her very best to ensure the safety of our children during this busy time by keeping the parking lot circle running smoothly and free from cars parked illegally. The Transportation Office has agreed to come to CSCES to assess the situation. This is an issue that will take time to resolve, so please be patient! In the meantime, please consider carpooling with a friend, walk or ride bikes to/from school, or leave a few extra minutes to allow for the extra block you may have to walk to school. Spirit Wear

By now, everyone who ordered spirit wear should have received their order. The fall spirit wear sale was a huge success. There were over 390 garments ordered! Cape St. Claire Elementary certainly shows school spirit. Thanks parents, teachers and students for all your support.  And thank you to Kerry Wilson for organizing this! If you were unable to order or forgot to order your school spirit wear, don’t worry, we will have another spirit wear sale early in the new year!

Ice Cream Social

A big thank you to Renee Rutledge , Kristie Alva, and Helen Bragaw for all of their hard work on the Ice Cream Social. And we must not forget all of you that volunteered your time to make this event such a huge success!  Without you, it would not have been possible! Thank you!  We raised over $4000.00.  Also, we want to acknowledge the following sponsors: Richard’s Tree Services – Drinks, The Todaro Family – Hot Dog Buns, Easport Deli – Hot Dogs, Royale Dining – Chips, The Dernetz Family – Ice Cream, Three Brothers – Ziti & Salad.  We would also like to thank Homestead and Anne Marie, Happy Cheeks – Heather Burrows, Creative memories – Jennie Gordon.

Last year CSCES collected over 10,000 box tops, earning our school over $1000! Today we are announcing our 2009-10 Be Smart With Your Cart Box Top Contest.  We hope to collect over 15,000 box tops during this year’s campaign.  We need your help to do it!

The Details:

1. Contest will begin on Monday, November 2, 2009 and will end on Friday, May 28, 2010.

2. The box tops will be collected monthly. Look in the main hallway for progress reports as each class fills their “cart”.

3. Box tops collected by the teachers should be deposited in the Box Top Collection bin in the Volunteer Room.

4. We will be awarding prizes this year for 1^st place in both the lower grades (Kindergarten – 2^nd grade) & the upper grades (3^rd – 5^th grade).

5. A special prize will be awarded to the children (one each in the lower & upper grades) who bring in the most box tops for the entire year. Last year’s winner won gift certificates to the bowling alley!

5. Please remember to make sure you ONLY send General Mills Box Tops (not Campbell’s Soup labels or Betty Crocker points). And, please make sure they do not expire BEFORE 6/30/10.

Restaurant Raffle

In past years the CSC-PTO Restaurant Raffle has raised up to $5000 for various activities at Cape St. Claire Elementary School! This year all of the proceeds received from the raffle will be used to enhance the school’s main playground in order to maximize our children’s outdoor play time and physical fitness.

Would you like to win a fantastic dinner at local area restaurants?

How about winning nine dinners at nine different restaurants?

It could be you! Buy a ticket to this year’s Restaurant Raffle to raise money for the school’s main playground enhancements and find out!  Better yet, sell tickets to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers and the kids will all be winners!

STUDENT CONTEST – the student who sells the most Raffle tickets and turns them in by Wednesday 10/21 will receive a FREE dinner, drink, sundae and 40 FREE game tickets at the Ice Cream social!

Tickets are only $5 each or buy five and get the sixth free!

How to sell:

1.    Let people know it’s for a great cause! Make sure to tell them that the money is going to enhancing the school’s main playground.

2.    Make sure your buyers know what a great value this is! They are getting ALL of the gift certificates with a value of at least $400 or more to local restaurants. If they don’t eat out, just let them know that gift certificates are a great gift for holidays or birthdays for someone they love!

3.    Tickets cost $5 each or 6 for $25!

4.    You do not need to be present to win.  Drawing is October 23^rd at the ice-cream social!

5.    Make sure the names of the purchasers and their phone numbers are neatly printed on the cut off tab at the bottom of each ticket (carry scissors with you.)

6.    Return both money and ticket stubs to the school. Make checks payable to CSC-PTO. Checks or money must be enclosed for tickets to be entered.

7.    Keep in mind the Student Contest.   The students name and teacher must be listed on the outside of the envelope to be entered in to the contest.

Ice Cream Social and Restaurant Raffle will be held

Friday, October 23rd,  5:30 – 8:30 PM

This much anticipated event is FUN for the whole family and a great FUNDRAISER for our school.

In the past, we’ve been fortunate to have several families and/or businesses that have donated or subsidized such items as:

• Moon bounce
• A giant pumpkin for our “guess the weight of the pumpkin game”
• Webkinz (for raffle)
• Radio controlled dragonfly (for raffle)
• DS Lite (for raffle)
• Mountain Bike (for raffle)
• Gift Bag of hair salon products (for raffle)

These donations while adding to the overall excitement of the event also produce 100% profit for PTO and provide a unique opportunity to demonstrate your support for the school.  All supporters can expect to receive a thank you in the PTO newslsetter and website and their name prominently displayed next to the item donated during the event.  Anonymous donations also welcome.

If you feel that your family or place of business would like to sponsor anything along the lines of the above mentioned items (or we’re always open to new kid centered ideas) please contact the PTO.

As many of you know, for a school event to be successful, we need parent volunteers.  Some have already committed to helping and we thank you.  For those who haven’t, if you or an adult family member can help, please let us know.
